From local haunts, to glorious greenspaces and marine life, this itinerary will keep outdoor enthusiasts engaged in all the natural West Coast wonders that can be easily accessed from anywhere in Oak Bay.

It all starts with a good coffee and there is no shortage of amazing places to find good java in Oak Bay. Local tip: Hit Demitasse on McNeil Avenue where you can order a coffee and great local food. While you’re waiting for your order, take in the beauty of the back garden where owners Rob and Kathryn keep their amazing collection of beautiful and unusual plants.

Next up, pick up your bike rental at Victoria Electric Bikes (for an e-bike) or Oak Bay Bikes. Take a tour of the avenue and surrounding streets. The stretch of road known as Beach Drive that runs between Cadboro Bay and McNeil Point makes for one of the most scenic pedals to be had on Vancouver Island. There are also countless spots along the way to take in the stunning beauty of Oak Bay and grab a few quick photos.

The Oak Bay Marina is located at Turkey Head Point and provides spectacular views of Mount Baker almost 365 days a year. If you don’t have your own pleasure craft, fear not. Rent a kayak or SUP and enjoy a tranquil paddle around the area from Ocean River Sports, on site.

You can also book a Shoreline Tour that includes a paddle around Jimmy Chicken Island, nearby islets and the Oak Bay Ecological Reserve. Don’t be surprised to see cormorants, river otters and harbour seals. Available June 1 to September 15.

Ambitious adventurers will love Discovery Island Kayak Tour that involves a short boat ride through the Chain Islets to Discovery Island. Explore by kayak and by foot. Lunch is provided. This will be a truly unforgettable day. Available June 1 to September 15.

After you’ve had your fill of the sea, there are countless greenspaces where you can go for a stroll. Take in the greenery and converse with the locals (but don’t be surprised if they have four legs and antlers). Lokier Gardens and Uplands Park are both great parks to seek out. The latter is the perfect place to catch a signature Oak Bay sunset.

After a busy day of exploring, nothing hits the spot like a delicious pizza. Visit Oak Bay’s newest eatery in the Oak Bay Beach Hotel where you can enjoy a few slices with a great wine selection.
