Oak Bay Arts & Culture Days is an annual event celebrating Oak Bay as a premier cultural destination and highlighting the cultural vibrancy of the community.

All activities are free of charge, some advance registration may be required.

August 8th:
Kick-off concert, 6pm and family activities, 5:30pm (free cake) at Willows Beach Park:
Join us for a celebratory piece of cake as we kick off Oak Bay’s Arts and Culture Days, there will be free family activities, face painting, storywalks and the Damian Graham Trio live on stage.

August 8th, 10:30-11:30am:
Detective in Training library program (ages6-9) at Oak Bay Branch of GVPL:
For ages 6-9. Explore mystery stories and crack a tough case with a simple detective assignment. Registration begins June 27th at gvpl.ca.

August 11th, 11am-4pm:
Bowker Creek Brush Up Show and sale, Bowker Creek between Hampshire and Oak Bay High School:
Celebrating its 15th year, the Bowker Creek Brush Up sees artists from the Oak Bay Community Artists Society and other guest artists to meet the public and demonstrate how they create their art. This great annual event brings the community together for a festive and fun day.

August 11th, 6-7:30pm:
Raven Baroque performance at Willows Beach Park:
Join Victoria’s 14 piece baroque strings group for a beautiful outdoor acoustic performance. Featuring celebrated music from great composers performed by some of Victoria’s finest classical musicians.

August 12th-16th:
StoryWalks are installed on the Henderson Recreation Centre walking trail:
What’s a story walk? A StoryWalk is an innovative way for children – and adults – to enjoy stories in the great outdoors. Pages from a children’s book are hung or attached to wooden stakes along a path outdoors. As you stroll down the trail, you’ll go from page to page, enjoying the story along with a walk in nature. StoryWalks will be displayed during daylight hours and will be not be displayed in wet weather. Thanks to gvpl.ca.

August 12th-30th:
‘I’ve not always been Canadian’ display by the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria installed in the foyer at Oak Bay Municipal Hall:
A Travelling Exhibition On The Evolving Canadian Identity. “I’ve Not Always Been Canadian” was a project by the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria where newcomers and established immigrants/refugees were invited to share their stories of what it means to belong and to fully embrace a Canadian identity. This project was facilitated by Artistic Director and Storyteller Lina de Guevara with photo-journalism by Quinton Gordon. As part of Canada’s 150 year celebrations, their goal was to facilitate a deeper understanding of our community’s cultural, ethnic and religious diversity.

August 13th, 10:30am:
ArtsAlive Guided Public Sculpture Walking Tour, with guests poets Joy Hubert, Gisela Ruebsaat and Susan Braley:
Join members of our Public Arts Advisory Committee and special guest, local poets on a walking tour taking in the ArtsAlive sculptures on Oak Bay Avenue.

August 14th, 6pm:
Art Piano Pop Up Performance: located on Willows Beach Esplanade:
Join local artists Graham Thompson and Sherry Tompalski for a good ol’ sing along around the piano at Willows Beach August 14th at 6pm, (August 15th at 6pm if it rains). On the band stand this year, SEAGULL SID welcomes WALLY CATNIP to play A WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN GOIN’ ON!

August 17th, 2:30pm:
‘Storytime is a …Drag!’ library program (ages 5-8) at Oak Bay branch of GVPL:
Join Victoria’s drag queens, kings and things for a fun afternoon. Enjoy a drag storytime, music and sing-alongs, crafts and games. Presented in partnership with Staches and Lashes Collective. Registration begins June 27 at gvpl.ca.

August 18th, 3-5pm:
Neighbourhood Hootenanny Time Machine Community Dance – with Brooke Maxwell and band, Monterey Recreation Centre:
Time to get your dancing shoes on! Come and have a swingin’ good time with your friends and neighbours.

August 22nd, 6pm:
Summer Concerts in the Park, Willows Beach Park:
Featuring Mufaro Marimba live on stage.

August 24th, 10am-noon:
ArtsAlive Guided Bus tour, Oak Bay Municipal Hall:
Join Oak Bay Arts Laureate Barbara Adams and visual artist Robert Amos for a guided tour of the ArtsAlive Sculptures situated outside of the Oak Bay Village area. Free to attend, advance registration required as bus seats are limited. To register, call 250 595 7946, course #00054396.

1:30-3pm ArtsAlive Guided Walking Tour with local poetry and performers from the Canadian College of the Performing Arts:
Join Oak Bay Arts Laureate Barbara Adams and visual artist Robert Amos for a guided tour of the ArtsAlive Sculptures situated along Oak Bay Avenue and in Oak Bay Village Free to attend, advance registration required as bus seats are limited. To register, call 250 595 7946, course #00054395.

Artists on the Avenue (afternoon):
Soak in the sun and be inspired as some of Oak Bay’s local artists take to the street, setting up easels and demonstrations on Oak Bay Ave.

August 29th, 6pm:
Arts and Culture Days Community Picnic featuring the Monterey Concert Band (6:30pm) and Outdoor Movie (8pm) at Carnarvon Park:
Meet your friends, family and neighbours at the park for a community picnic with entertainment from the Monterey Concert Band playing some great tunes. Stay until the sun sets (approx.. 8pm) to take in an outdoor movie on the big screen! Food trucks will be onsite. (Movie will be selected via online poll in June). Go plastic free! We encourage everyone to bring re-useable plates, cups and cutlery to reduce waste and garbage.
