Improve
your backhand at one of Oak Bay’s many good quality courts. Tennis has
been popular in Oak Bay since the beginning of the century and municipality’s
first tennis club was founded by the employees of the BC Electric and Railway
Company (B.C.E.R.) in 1911.
Windsor
Park (Windsor and Newport Avenue) offers three finished courts as well as
a practice wall. Courts are free and open to the public on a first-come first-served
basis. Bookings for lessons are posted on the bulletin board beside the court
entrance.
Carnarvon
Park is host to a practice wall and five finished courts, which are also
free on a first-come first-served basis. Bookings for lessons or tournaments
will be posted on the bulletin board at the entrance.
Henderson Recreation Centre, at 2291 Cedar Hill X Road sports six finished
tennis courts with partial windscreen and tree surround. Three courts have overhead
lights. Cost is $5.00 for one hour, $7.50 for an hour and a half and $10.00
for two hours. The courts are on a reservation system from April to October
and can be booked by calling 370-7200.
Tennis enthusiasts can play rain or shine at one of seven indoor courts at
the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. Reservations can be made one day in advance by
