Kayaking in Oak Bay
Oak
Bay is fortunate to be home to one of the best wilderness kayaking areas on
southern Vancouver Island. Discovery
and Chatham Islands are only fifteen minutes from Oak Bay’s shore
but the wilderness kayaking they offer is comparable to the west coast of Vancouver
Island. A seabird nesting area and home to abundant marine life, this wild adventure
doesn’t leave the comforts of civilization far behind.
Blackfish Wilderness
Expeditions offers guided tours of Discovery and Chatham Islands, featuring
transportation across Baynes Channel in their Giant Canoe. Instruction is provided
and transportation includes an eco-tour of the adjacent coastline and reefs.
Tours may be expanded to include a hiking option or a whale watching adventure
and are provided for groups as small as two and as large as 12.
Oak
Bay Beach Hotel offers a kayaking marine adventure package. Each kayaking
experience is adjusted to suit skill levels ranging from beginner to expert.
Full orientation is provided prior to departure and no open water is crossed.
A three-hour tour winds through secluded coves and inlets for a gently challenging
adventure.
Kayaks may be launched at Cattle Point for independent exploration of Oak Bay’s
coastline.
